Jawbone Icon: Good things do come in small packages

by AstainHellbring on Jul.19, 2010, under The Mobile

I’ve used tons of headsets before but never a Jawbone.  I found out that my work had a discount with Verizon and since Verizon sold the headset I figured what the hell and bought it.  To summarize – I LOVE IT!  It’s tiny and light weight.  This sucker makes ANY other Jawbone look HUGE.  Also, better than any other Jawbone – this model didnt seem to “care” at all about the fact that I shave once a week.  As many have probably noticed, previous models lost their effectiveness with the presence of stubble on the chin.  This is because the facial hair separated the sensor in the Jawbone from the jaw bone thus hindering its ability to pick up on vibrations.  Called LTxda and we definately agreed it did very well even though I didn’t shave.  The jaw sensor is greatly upgraded on this model as it’s a more pronounced nub instead of the tiny stick in the old models.  To boot they upgraded the power charger – no more proprietary cable needed.  Now its a standard micro-USB cable and its ACTUALLY USEFUL!!! There is software on the Jawbone site that you can configure the built in voices.  Specifically the way the software works and reacts.  You can change the voice dial settings and all.  As for those that are fashion sensed and focus on aethetics, the new Jawbone comes in many different designs/colors.  ~ You Want That!!!

Outlook 2000, 2003, 2007: Remember Open Messages ~ You Want That!!!

by LTxda on Nov.20, 2009, under The Desktop/Server, Things of Interest

Disclaimer:  I’m not responsible nor am in a position to provide support if you choose to use the information within this post or download files and something goes wrong.  Download and use any information within this post or this website at your own risk.  I nor YouWantThat.com is liable for any problems encountered or loss of data as a result of using the information and/or files provided on this website/blog.

I’ve looked long and hard for something like this and finally found a FREE solution that works.

This add-in is hard to find and might not be in development as the developer has pulled it from his website.  There are a couple of versions floating around the Internet but only one worked for me.

I’m using Outlook 2007 and I haven’t tested it on 2000 nor 2003 but since the add-in was developed for 2000 and 2003 and works on 2007, I’m assuming it’s okay for all three versions hence the title of the post.

What will this add-in do for me you ask?  Well, when you close Outlook if you have open messages that you still haven’t responded to or need for reference but didn’t want to flag, task them, etc…those messages will automatically open back up the next time you open Outlook!!!  I love this and YOU WANT THAT!!!  Don’t you?  :)

Right about now you’re probably asking yourself or me, how do I get it???  Well, click here Windows Manager for Outlook 1.0.0.2 and you’re welcome!  :)

To make this work you’ll have to read the file named “WinMan.txt” in the archive.

Although I’m not the developer, I would like to get feedback and hear how it’s working or not working for you.

RD Tabs

by LTxda on Aug.28, 2009, under Things of Interest

Thanks goes out to our friend “Scoobyrandall” who provided us with another choice for remoting into Windows systems.

RD Tabs is a tab based RDP (Remote Desktop) client that works pretty well.  Our initial impression is a good one.  We like how it renders the remote computer a little better out of the box than Terminals but then again we haven’t played with all the properties and settings in Terminals yet.

If you’re looking for an easy way to manage multiple systems or just want a different client, other than the native Windows RDP client, check this one out as well.

As per the developer’s website:

“Windows Remote Desktop is great, except when you have to connect to dozens of them and it fills up your taskbar! Enter RD Tabs: the ultimate tabbed Remote Desktop Client. Not only does it provide all the expected features of “tabbed” applications like FireFox, Opera, and IE7, but it takes Remote Desktop to the next level with features such as favorites with advanced editing, command line scripting, connection thumbnails, encrypted passwords, detached connection windows, remote desktop screen capture, remote terminal server information/management, RDP 6.0 support, and much more!

In addition, RD Tabs is 100% Vista compatible and works perfectly as a standard (non-admin) user on all versions of Windows. Also, RD Tabs respects Windows’ Remote Desktop Client group policy, for enterprise environments. To top it all off, automatic software updates keep you informed of all the latest versions, fixes, and enhancements.

RD Tabs requires the .Net Framework 2.0.”

One thing not mentioned in the excert above is that they also provide RD Tabs in both a 32bit and 64bit client.

Terminals

by LTxda on Aug.26, 2009, under Things of Interest

A thank you goes out to our friend “Zetmon” for letting us know about Terminals.  I tried it and was impressed by the initial experience.  I’ll be testing it more with my daily work and see how it performs.  Meanwhile you can test it for yourself and see what you think…

According to the developer’s site, http://www.codeplex.com/Terminals ,  Terminals is:

Terminals is a secure, multi tab terminal services/remote desktop client. It uses Terminal Services ActiveX Client (mstscax.dll).  The project started from the need of controlling multiple connections simultaneously. It is a complete replacement for the mstsc.exe (Terminal Services) client.”

The client supports the following protocols:  RDP, VNC, VMRC, RAS, Telnet, SSH, ICA Citrix and Amazon S3.

Increase PST/OST File Size Limit, Past 20GB in Microsoft Outlook 2k2/2k3/2k7 ~ You Want That!!!

by LTxda on Aug.24, 2009, under Things of Interest

A thank you goes out to George S. who let us know about the registry hack to increase the PST/OST file size limit for Microsoft Outlook way way way waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay past the 20GB limit!  Thanks George!!!

According to http://www.windowsitpro.com , the file size limit of a Unicode PST is not 20GB, it’s an incredible 33TB!!!  This only applies if you are running Microsoft Outlook 2002, 2003 or 2007, respectively Outlook versions 10.0, 11.0, and 12.0.  As mentioned in the article linked below, increasing the PST/OST file size limit will affect performance so it’s up to you to determine the sweet spot on your own system.  A 100GB PST might perform very well on a system with an SSD and Quad Core CPU but could cause serious issues on a system with a 100GB IDE drive and a P4 CPU…you never know.  If you’re interested in playing with the registry….WARNING WARNING WARNING – ONLY EXPERIENCED USERS SHOULD TAMPER WITH THE REGISTRY!!!….that said, you do so at your own risk and if you crash your system you’re on your own, don’t post requests for help as they will be deleted without a response.  Happy hacking!

http://windowsitpro.com/Articles/ArticleID/99336/pg/2/2.html

Update:   We also wanted to provide a link to Microsoft’s site – How to configure the size limit for both (.pst) and (.ost) files in Outlook 2007 and in Outlook 2003.

Orb Bluetooth Bone Conductive Ring/Headset – by Absolutely New

by LTxda on Aug.24, 2009, under Things of Interest

The Orb is an attempt at bone conductive technology by Absolutely New.  No speaker and nothing goes into your ear.  The sound is transferred into your ear drum through the bones in your skull.  The device is both a ring and a headset, pretty cool idea.  I’m not sure how this device is going to fit and not fall out of your ear but we’ll soon see.  Three “versions” of the device are scheduled to hit the retail channels starting with the first in January 2010.
